After having spent countless nights in the hope to hear this good news, both of them were feeling ecstatic today.

They had applied for the adoption but it seems God was testing their patience..
Finally, their wait, worries, and anxieties were about to get over…
Impregnated with hope, they drove down to the orphanage…

“Yes….the child in the red frock ..sleeping in that cradle is the one for you…
“Can we see her” she couldn’t hold her tears…
“Of course…but careful…she might not recognize your touch…be gentle”the trustee requested..

She held her close to her bosom…, the child started crying…perhaps she was not used to their touch….tears started flowing down her cheeks -silently….she kissed her supple forehead ….and looked at her hubby…..he smiled and closed his eyes as a mark of consent from his side….
“One thing I want to share with you before you take your call……she was abandoned by her mother last week ….she is perfectly healthy, the doctor has already examined her …but there is something that I need to share..this child will perhaps never see the light of the sun….she is visually impaired….” the trustee said softly in a matter of factly voice…

She felt as if she was bitten by a venomous snake…felt an excruciating pain surging through her veins…….she immediately placed the baby back in the cradle…and turned her face away…looked at her husband…..
She didn’t whisper a word…but her eye did…”why is god so cruel….why has he chosen to punish us in this way…we waited for so long…….why……???????

She had just moved one step forward to go back but he grabbed her arm………

“What happened?” He asked
“Am being practical……I can not bring up a visually impaired child….don’t you understand she is BLIND” her last word was given so much emphasis…….

“I know she is blind…………….how about you?”

“Wh….wha…what about me…what do you mean?” she stung back….
“Ain’t you also blind….god has chosen us to be her parents because we are in the capacity to provide her the best….perhaps get her treated too…..we are the chosen ones here my love…not her….she is blind but it’s you who is acting blind……….so now answer me….ain’t you the blind one here?”

This time….when she held her in her arms…..the child didn’t cry…..the child peacefully rested her head against her breast….she had already started recognising the touch…..the bond had already started blossoming ….it might not have been the love at First “sight”….but it sure was the love at First “touch”.
