Diwali is quite literally my favourite time of the year in this city- the lights, the parties and there is something in the air which makes it such a happy time. Now whilst I am quite particular about having a cleaning schedule all year around I know that it can be sometimes hard to follow. So if you are short on time and don’t want to get professional help here are some quick fixes on getting your home festive ready
a) Wardrobes – Diwali is two weeks away and it’s good to start getting those wardrobes clean and perhaps even de-clutter them. Do one wardrobe a day so it’s not frustrating or tiring. Empty it completely. Use a simple cleaner like Mr. Muscle to wipe down each shelf. Then use newspaper liners or plastic liners and lay your clothes folded side towards the open cupboard. Remember if you choose to use newspaper liners change them at least every two months.
SPECIAL TIP : You want your cupboards and clothes smelling great… take cotton balls and spray them with your favourite perfume or even any perfume and put them in your drawers or shelves after they are slightly dry
b) Kitchen Hacks
  • Make a mix of baking soda, vinegar, and water and wipe down all your stainless steel with it. Use a soft sponge to ensure no abrasive marks come on your SS fixtures. Use the same for all your cabinets to de-grease them.
  • Microwave cleaning – in a large bowl filled with water and baking soda run the microwave for at least 5 minutes. Wait for it to cool down and then use a sponge to wipe down the microwave.
  • Clean your fridge using lemon especially for the rubber beading.
  • Line your kitchen drawers with plastic liners this time around when you clean them out. Just makes for easy cleaning in the months ahead.
SPECIAL TIP: Keep dried used tea-bags in little bowls around your kitchen cabinets, fridge to allow them to absorb all the unwanted smells.
